BVI'S BMOBILE/LIME TAKES NANNY CAY NATIONS CUP

At the fourth annual Nanny Cay Nations Cup held this weekend (Nov 15/16) in the British Virgin Islands, 'bmobile/ LIME' brought the perpetual trophy back to the BVI after a one year stay in the US Virgin Islands.  BVI Olympic hopeful Alec Anderson steered his 'bmobile/LIME' team to a convincing victory after a very tough two-day event held in 18-20 knots of breeze with a total of 22 points.  Last year's defending champions, John and Peter Holmberg of 'Ondeck Ocean Racing' (USVI), were second with 29 points and 'Team BVI' with Robbie and Mike Hirst, and 15-year old Don Tae Hodge on the helm, were third with 34 points.

After twelve races and no throw outs, 'bmobile/LIME' counted seven bullets scoring nothing deeper than a third place.   'bmobile/LIME's' main challenger for the Cup was Peter Holmberg and his 'Ondeck Ocean Racing' team - last year's winners. However, the Holmbergs' regatta was marred by a costly error in race seven when they sailed around the wrong windward mark with a comfortable lead.

Nanny Cay Marina Selected As Host Port For 2009 ARC Europe

Yacht rally specialists, World Cruising Club, have selected Nanny Cay Resort & Marina in Tortola, as the Caribbean host port for the start of ARC Europe 2009, the annual transatlantic cruising rally. This move brings the rally, which provides a fun and safe framework for transatlantic cruising, to the British Virgin Islands for the first time.

The ARC Europe rally is based on the format of the world famous ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) and is a perfect way for yachts to voyage to Europe at the end of the Caribbean season. During the six-week event, yachts will gather at Nanny Cay Marina in early May 2009, before departing the British Virgin Islands and crossing the Atlantic in company, calling at Bermuda and exploring the Azores Archipelago before reaching the European continent at the end of June.

With the fourth annual Nanny Cay Nations Cup just over two weeks away, a strong field of teams are lining up to attempt to dethrone US Virgin Islanders Peter and John Holmberg, last year’s winners.  An estimated 16-18 teams are currently expected representing the British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, England, Ireland, Holland, USA, Canada, Antigua, Barbados and Puerto Rico.

“Peter Holmberg and his USVI team will definitely be defending their title. This is great news for all concerned, there’s nothing like having a world-class helmsman to set your sights on,” said Richard Wooldridge of Racing In Paradise, the event organisers.

After years of coaxing, Antigua will be attending for the first time this year. Bernie Wong and his fellow Antiguans will be a force to be reckoned with, they’re a strong team and racked up some IC24 experience at the BVI Spring Regatta a few years ago.

The last leg of the last race decides the 2007 Nanny Cay Nations Cup

It's hard to imagine how it could have been closer. The 20th and final race of the weekend saw b.mobile Team BVI two points behind Team 'Holmberg BEYC'. The BVI team needed to finish the final race with two boats between them for a tie or three for a win. This was not very likely with the super consistent Holmbergs scoring nothing worse than a third so far...

So what it boils down to is this. If the BVI win the final race Holmberg has to come 5th  (and last!) for the BVI to win. If the BVI place 2nd and the Holmbergs last it will be all tied up.

Race 19 saw the Holmbergs looking shaky for the first time. They rounded the first windward gate last and only managed to get past Annapolis and the Dutch to place thrid. Meanwhile the BVI could not get past the Canadians who won the race.

Team Conyers Dill & Pearman Wins the 2007 Financial Services Challenge

The third annual Financial Services Challenge took place at Nanny Cay Marina on Sunday, June 24. It also proved to be third time lucky for Conyers Dill & Pearman (Conyers).

Conditions were absolutely perfect as Guy Eldridge, partner at Conyers, and his team went into the final race tied on points with Deloitte. This race would decide who took the International Finance Centre Cup home. It turned out to be a real nail biter. Race 11 saw a picture perfect start with all 11 IC24s hitting the line with speed.

Bryshaun Scatcliffe, helming for Conyers, managed to win the pin end with great speed as they took off along the shore just off Nanny Cay. Andrew Waters helming for Deloitte started midline and looked to be in great shape finding clean air and the freedom to tack off when he wanted.
